Footgolf at a golf park

What is Footgolf?

Footgolf is a fun and sociable sport where the calmness of golf meets the thrill of football. How do you to play footgolf? It’s simple but brilliant fun: the aim is to kick the ball into specially created oversized holes in as few kicks as possible.

It’s a game that doesn’t demand any fancy equipment or skills, making it perfect for all ages to enjoy a good laugh while getting some fresh air. It’s a clever twist on traditional sports, offering a relaxed way to spend time with friends or family.

How and where to play Footgolf

To play footgolf, you need to start with a suitable venue. The specially adapted courses are usually a 9-hole golf course with standard features like tee boxes, sand bunkers, water hazards, fairways, and greens. However, the size of the cup on the green is obviously considerably larger to accommodate the football! You can start the game with a coin toss or a playful round of rock-paper-scissors to see which person or team starts first.

Starting from the tee box, each player takes their first kick aiming for the green. The players continue to kick the ball from where it lands, heading towards the hole. They add up the number of times they have to kick the ball before they get it into the hole. The player or team with the fewest strokes wins the hole, and ultimately, the team with the lowest total number of kicks taken to put the ball in the holes wins the game overall.

Footgolf requires minimal equipment — just a football and a comfortable pair of shoes. It’s a unique blend that takes the strategic challenge of golf and the physicality of football, offering a new way to enjoy the outdoors and get active.

If you are wondering where you can play footgolf, you can check out the official FootGolf Association of England website, which provides a list of certified courses. These courses are spread across the country, offering ample opportunities to play. Footgolf is a growing sport, with more courses popping up regularly. And if you are looking for a brilliant footgolf course in London, Good Time Golfin is the ideal choice!

Why Footgolf?

A sport for all

Footgolf is an inclusive sport where the course becomes a meeting ground for friends, families, and colleagues. Unlike other sports that might require specific skills or fitness levels, footgolf welcomes everyone with its simple concept: kick a ball into a hole.

The rules are straightforward, the equipment is minimal, and the learning curve is almost flat. It’s a sport where laughter and enjoyment are just as important as the score, making it a brilliant game that fosters community and togetherness.

Different abilities can play together

One of the advantages of footgolf lies in its ability to level the playing field, allowing players of varied physical abilities to share the game. It’s a rare sport where experts and beginners, athletes and non-athletes can compete side by side.

The game naturally adapts to the player’s ability, making it a shared experience that’s competitive yet harmonious as each player navigates the course according to their own skill level.

No age restrictions

Footgolf doesn’t discriminate by age; it’s as appealing to a teenager as it is to a senior. It’s a leisurely sport that doesn’t put undue strain on the body, making it perfect for any age group to enjoy. The joy of kicking a ball, the gentle walk along the fairways, and the satisfaction of a well-played hole are moments that everyone, from a young child to a grandparent, can appreciate and share.

You can choose how many holes you want to play

Flexibility is another advantage of footgolf. Participants don’t have to play the full 9-holes if they don’t want to. You can decide how many holes you feel like playing on the day depending your mood and energy level. Whether it’s a full 9-hole game or a casual play-a-hole / miss-a-hole session, the sport adapts to your time and energy constraints, offering a customisable experience that suits everyone.

The sport is rewarding

Footgolf is a really fun and rewarding game, providing a sense of accomplishment with every hole played. The game is as much about strategy as it is about physical action, giving players the satisfaction of seeing their planning and skill translate into successful kicks. It’s a sport that rewards patience, precision, and persistence, offering an enjoyable way to spend time outdoors with friends and family.

We really welcome the development of Good Time Golfin and the range of activities it brings to the area, it’s a great addition locally, and the facilities themselves are modern, well-kept, and enjoyable. As a family, we genuinely want to support venues like this and would happily return to try out more of the activities. That said, the major frustration for us has been the inconsistent approach to the Carer Pass and Blue Light discount. On one visit (3/09) the Carer Pass was accepted but the Blue Light discount was refused on the basis that it wasn’t valid during the school holidays, which was debatable. When we returned on 6/09, the Carer Pass was suddenly refused (despite us bringing all the required documentation) and the Blue Light discount was then declined on the basis it wasn’t valid after 6pm. It feels like the rules change depending on who you speak to, which leaves customers embarrassed and frustrated. I fully appreciate that structure is needed with these passes, especially with so many people now eligible, but it has to be applied fairly and consistently. Either you support the Blue Light services or you don’t; you can’t dip in and out depending on the day. These visits are not cheap, and it is uncomfortable to have to stand at the counter and debate with staff who themselves don’t seem clear on the standards. If Good Time Golfin can bring clarity and consistency around how these passes and discounts are applied, I think it could be an excellent family destination, and we would certainly consider coming back. For now though, the experience left us questioning whether to look at alternatives.

Lots of parking (paid) and the building is lovely and clean. We went to play footgolf and the kids enjoyed it. My only negative is that it’s very expensive to play. The cafe is great as are the outside areas to sit and relax.

“Such a good time golfing! The whole experience was fun, relaxed, and stress-free, making it a perfect day out. The staff are really friendly and welcoming, which makes a big difference. The course itself is easy to play and great for all abilities, so whether you’re just trying golf for the first time or want a casual game, it works really well. It’s also very family-friendly — great for kids and for a fun day out together, especially since it’s located right next to Gripped Hounslow, so you can make a full day of activities. One of the highlights is the interactive screens that track your scores and offer a variety of game modes, which makes it more engaging than just a standard round. The facilities are clean and well looked after, including the toilets, and there are plenty of areas to sit and relax before or after your game. They serve alcohol too, at fair prices, which is a nice extra touch if you’re there with friends. Pricing for golf is around £11 per person depending on the package, which I found to be good value for the experience. Overall, it’s a really enjoyable and affordable activity for families, groups of friends, or even a casual date. With friendly staff, modern features, and a welcoming atmosphere, I’d definitely recommend it for anyone looking for something fun and different to do.”
