Benefits of learning golf for families

Physical health benefits

Learning golf as a family is great for your physical health. As well as seeing golf as a great opportunity for a fun walk around the course – which can be a great cardiovascular exercise – the muscles you use in swinging the golf club help to develop core strength and improve muscle tone, particularly in the arms and back. Golf also enhances hand-eye coordination and balance.

For families, it’s an enjoyable way to engage in a relaxed physical activity together, promoting a healthy lifestyle. Unlike more intense sports, golf is low-impact, making it suitable for all ages, allowing even the youngest and oldest family members to participate and stay active together.

Mental health benefits

Golf is not just a physical activity, it’s also a mental game that offers substantial benefits. Learning and playing golf requires concentration, strategy and problem-solving, which are excellent for cognitive development. It teaches patience and emotional control as players learn to manage their reactions to both good shots as well as the not so good!

For families, golf can be a peaceful escape from the daily hustle, providing a relaxed environment to unwind and de-stress. Playing in the fresh air can be calming and therapeutic, fostering a sense of mental well-being.

Social benefits

Golf is a socially enriching sport, especially for families. It’s an opportunity for quality time, allowing family members to connect and communicate away from the distractions of everyday life. Golf courses are social hubs where families can meet other people, enhancing their social circle and encouraging interactions with diverse groups of people.

For children and youngsters, it’s a chance to learn social etiquette and sportsmanship. The game’s inherent nature of being competitive yet respectful promotes a healthy competitive spirit. Learning and playing golf together strengthens family bonds and creates a sense of team spirit and belonging.

Significance of learning golf with your family

Quality time and presence

In a world dominated by digital distractions, golf offers a unique chance to unplug and genuinely engage with your children. It’s a setting where smartphones and screens are replaced by meaningful interactions and shared experiences. This focused time not only nurtures family bonds but also significantly contributes to the emotional and social development of children, proving mutually beneficial for both parents and kids.

Mutual support and encouragement

During family golf instruction, parents get the chance to be their child’s cheerleader, supporting and celebrating their efforts. It shifts the dynamic from teaching to encouraging, allowing parents to witness and foster their child’s growth and successes. This supportive environment strengthens family relationships, creating a space where each member feels valued and encouraged. It’s about enjoying the process together and reinforcing the notion that the journey is as important as the destination.

Safe and lifelong sport

Golf is a non-contact sport, making it a safer option compared to many other sports where injuries are more common. For families concerned about the physical risks associated with contact sports, golf is the perfect alternative. It’s a game that can be played regardless of age or physical limitations, ensuring that as children grow, they continue to have a sport that keeps them engaged, competitive, and physically active without the risk of severe injuries.

We really welcome the development of Good Time Golfin and the range of activities it brings to the area, it’s a great addition locally, and the facilities themselves are modern, well-kept, and enjoyable. As a family, we genuinely want to support venues like this and would happily return to try out more of the activities. That said, the major frustration for us has been the inconsistent approach to the Carer Pass and Blue Light discount. On one visit (3/09) the Carer Pass was accepted but the Blue Light discount was refused on the basis that it wasn’t valid during the school holidays, which was debatable. When we returned on 6/09, the Carer Pass was suddenly refused (despite us bringing all the required documentation) and the Blue Light discount was then declined on the basis it wasn’t valid after 6pm. It feels like the rules change depending on who you speak to, which leaves customers embarrassed and frustrated. I fully appreciate that structure is needed with these passes, especially with so many people now eligible, but it has to be applied fairly and consistently. Either you support the Blue Light services or you don’t; you can’t dip in and out depending on the day. These visits are not cheap, and it is uncomfortable to have to stand at the counter and debate with staff who themselves don’t seem clear on the standards. If Good Time Golfin can bring clarity and consistency around how these passes and discounts are applied, I think it could be an excellent family destination, and we would certainly consider coming back. For now though, the experience left us questioning whether to look at alternatives.

Lots of parking (paid) and the building is lovely and clean. We went to play footgolf and the kids enjoyed it. My only negative is that it’s very expensive to play. The cafe is great as are the outside areas to sit and relax.

“Such a good time golfing! The whole experience was fun, relaxed, and stress-free, making it a perfect day out. The staff are really friendly and welcoming, which makes a big difference. The course itself is easy to play and great for all abilities, so whether you’re just trying golf for the first time or want a casual game, it works really well. It’s also very family-friendly — great for kids and for a fun day out together, especially since it’s located right next to Gripped Hounslow, so you can make a full day of activities. One of the highlights is the interactive screens that track your scores and offer a variety of game modes, which makes it more engaging than just a standard round. The facilities are clean and well looked after, including the toilets, and there are plenty of areas to sit and relax before or after your game. They serve alcohol too, at fair prices, which is a nice extra touch if you’re there with friends. Pricing for golf is around £11 per person depending on the package, which I found to be good value for the experience. Overall, it’s a really enjoyable and affordable activity for families, groups of friends, or even a casual date. With friendly staff, modern features, and a welcoming atmosphere, I’d definitely recommend it for anyone looking for something fun and different to do.”
